Writing Pamphlets for Use in Mental Health Clinics

The process of developing customized pamphlets for use in mental health clinics is described. Content of "Facts About Sexuality," a pamphlet developedfor use in a Department of Veteran Affairs Psychiatric Outpatient Department, is reproduced in its entirety because no other pamphlets can be found that includes the entire array of sexuality issues seen in patients in a mental health clinic. To evaluate effectiveness of patient education materials, it is critical to assess patient comprehension, to monitor patient use of the referral sources listed and to assess behavior change.
