Racism and Mental HealthDepartment of Nursing, Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Boston, Massachusetts Race and its associated concept, racism, have long been linked to social and health problems. In this article, racism as a social construct is defined, and some of the literature on racism and mental health is reviewed. Examples from the literature and the authors research on Black women and depression are used to point out Black womens experiences with racism in the mental health system.
